So, I'll post more about Korea when I have a chance, but I wanted to share this, the African Renaissance Monument.
This monument was unveiled in April of this year in Senegal. It cost nearly $27 million, money that definitely could've been spent elsewhere. And in addition to all of the other arguments (stylistic and otherwise), President Abdoulaye Wade is claiming intellectual property rights over the project (he came up with the idea) and is going to receive 35% of the profits of tourism revenue from ticket sales and what not, leaving 65% for the State. He says he'll build schools, but that's a promise that has been made before. The statue is 160ft tall.
The State could've done many more important things with that money... I'm very disappointed, but I can't say I'm surprised.
